Yesterday went:
- Oh I just want to doodle Darthanial looking cool
- Hmm actually I’ll clean the doodle up more to sketch
- Oh actually I’ll eventually need to design Darthanial’s Magic Circle given I already designed DarkOverord’s, Congeria’s, and Lucernaz’s. Well time to open up Inkscape for the first time in two years!
- Oh I forgot how to use masks in Inkscape OH RIGHT it’s backwards to every other art application I’ve ever used by a black mask being where you want something to show unlike every other app that treats black mask layers as where you don’t want something to show.
- Okay cool well I guess it’d be cool to put in the doodle now I have it made.
- Actually if I’m going that far I should theme it around one of Darthanial’s spell cards.
- Uh oh this isn’t a doodle anymore!!!

Also if you’re curious, currently I (now) have 5 spell circles I’ve used in my art! One of the key points I’ve always had with these is that I’ve always wanted to avoid two triangles overlapping, AKA you know, the Star of David. I know “Two Inverted Triangles Overlapping in a Circle” is often used for “Look! It’s magic!!!” but it’s always bothered me, and I’m not religious let alone Jewish.
First one I made forever ago, that kind of just gets used in a LOT of my art is the one I made for my fox-bat-earth elemental hybrid JOS
The text in the squares is jibberish. It’s just keysmashes in a font called “Alphabet of the Magi“. And like yeah I use it in a LOT of my art as a “Quick! I need a magic circle!” aha.
For On the Border of Incident – Riftmaker’s Resealing Attempt I wanted to finally make a new, dedicated, magic circle for DarkOverord, as it is meant to be one of the characters if I ever make these shmups I’ll never make would have a unique circle. So I booted up Inkscape and LEARNED
I do love how this came out but also AAAAAAAAAAA learning Inkscape was a pain. The text actually has a meaning this time! It’s very dumb lmao
Upon immortal time and finite space a border of reality and unreality is breached ushering in this dream of magic duelled out with spell cards, DO’s a space manipulator
I then went “WHOA I bet I can these now for DO’s siblings” and I learned I can REALLY fuck up the shapes and was just “Yes, this is Congeria” (ability to manipulate chaos, as in, mathematical chaos etc. Don’t go gambling against them! Go gambling WITH them)
It’s just a fucked up mess I love it. Text reads: Within the bounds of chaos a spell is cast that defies predictability whilst also being perfectly simulated to bring about this dream, our reality
Then next up was a simple one! I wanted to do the other Occassus sibling, Lucernaz, while I was on a roll. She’s got energy manipulation powers (to complete the space/chaos/energy trio I guess!) but also focuses on using ice magic.
This was fuuuuuuuun to do I recall. :3c It’s spiky! Like ice!
From the cold realms of absolute zero to the entropic nature of the universe this energetic yet icy magic is summoned under my command
And now Darthanial’s is a thing! It’s kind of a combination of DO’s Hexagon circle Lucernaz’s star circle. Which makes sense to me, Darthanial is an alternate universe DarkOverord who focuses in magic, like Lucernaz!
It’s grey as I intend it to change colour to the element of the spell in question :3c. So blue for Flash Downpour here for example!
The fluff text for Darthanial’s is: Through wonders of the arcane, the boundary between reality and unreality is breached, collapsing this wave-function of magic for all to bear witness
