DarkOverord is perhaps one of the most dangerous beings for The Order to ever encounter, and until Feoh’s recent encounter with them and their subsequent recent activity following their encounter, DarkOverord was thought of as a complete myth[2].

Ability

The Riftmaker’s ability is not completely understood however it should not be underestimated for obvious reasons. The manipulation of space and time leaves them with the ability to teleport, alter the flow of time and even destroy space itself[3]. While they mostly use this ability to rip their way through space to teleport to other locations, seemingly on a whim with no destination, this ability seems to also have other uses such as altering various states of matter.

Given the versatile nature of an ability that could alter the universe around them, it is reasonable to expect them to demonstrate abilities that are rarely seen. For example, they could drain a lake by altering the very fabric of space so that only a dried up hole remains. On the other hand, they could make the air so dense in front of him that it practically renders them invulnerable. Though of these two examples, the first is probably unlikely for whatever reason[4].

The Rift

Unsurprisingly given DarkOverord’s ambiguous nature, we’re not actually entirely sure if they actually created The Rift or just is essentially a caretaker. However, given they was supposedly there at our order’s creation, and given their demonstration of creating smaller similar rifts, logically it follows that they are The Rift’s creator. Why? We do not know.

One theory is they created it as a child[5] due to not having a full understanding of their powers, and is one possible reason for their almost personal relationship to The Rift. Another theory is that they created it in some form of power show with a rival and could not reverse the effects afterwards.

Neither theory can be confirmed by anyone other than them[6] however, as even though The Rift has seemingly always existed, given it’s tear through time, it is quite possible it could have been created in our future, not our past.

Eyewitnesses

“At one point in our battle I genuinely thought I was staring at death itself…so many glowy…things… (Feoh Sigel)
It is understandable that even while obeying the spell card rules, the Riftmaker would still be a terrifying sight to behold in a battle.

“I genuinely wish I’d never got involved in Feoh’s silly fight and just observed. From a distance it was genuinely amazing.” (JOS)
The more powerful a foe is, the more likely they’ll play for a show.

“They’re actually really short tempered, I didn’t tease them that much” (Marcus Fukuyama)
You impersonated them with a spell card called “Dragon’s Tantrum”…

“Wait you’re telling me that red dragon was the Riftmaker!? THEY HAVE BEEN VISITING FOR DECADES(Luzris Sigel)
Apparently they have been in touch with us than we thought.

Countermeasures

Theoretically there are no countermeasures possible for someone that can possibly manipulate the fabric of reality at a whim. Like most dragons remember they are short tempered and likely somewhat vain, do not insult them, act politely and do not get in their way. If you feel you must challenge them to a fight, remember the spell card rules exist for a reason, an unbalanced fight would be foolish.

[1]: We’re not entirely sure if the Riftmaker is mortal or not, or even where they are usually.
[2]: If it wasn’t for their increased activity after Feoh’s encounter with them, it’s likely we would accuse Feoh of lying.
[3]
: They however always seem to tidy up after themself. Well other than one big example in the sky if it was them who caused it.
[4]
: It is reasonable to assume that perhaps anything more complicated than their usual repertoire of abilities is strenuous and so avoided by the dragon. Or perhaps they are just lazy.
[5]: We assume they were once a child at least.
[6]: Though there is a powerful arch-magus rumoured to know…
