A red koopa (like Bowser) sits in a large chair sideways, one leg thrown over the arm rest. It has large wings and instead of horns there's a pair of large pallid ears, and its snout is slightly vampire bat like. In addition to this it has two very long fangs. It has a cape on with a large collar that is partly obscuring its head and is visible sticking out from its right side, while the rest of the cape drapes down over the side of the chair and along the floor. Its left arm rests on an armrest while it leans its cheek. In its right arm, a little outstretched, is a wine glass with a mysterious red liquid in, more than likely not wine.

So this was originally meant to be for Bowser Day but uh, I let scope run a bit too much

So now it’s an early Halloween pic ‘cus I can just say that because I’m the artist and I say so. We’ve had me as a (royal?) koopa before but that was a lot more hedgehog like, and also when the fangs were significantly shorter. So I wanted to do something a bit more batty and vampire-like oh noooooo

I really have a bad habit of letting scope creep happen in personal projects lol.

Marcus as royal koopa-tanuki hybrid. The've retained their usual colours and markings, as well as their very large fluffy tail, but have taken the overall shape of Bowser Koopa. They have spiked cuffs around their wrists and shoulders, wearing a straw hat that their koopa horns are piking through, have the pale scaly underbelly and a large brown spiny shell on their back. Tie around their left leg is a note pad and they're holding a sake bottle in their left arm They're breathing "fire" but really it's an illusion made of leaves. In the background is interlocking green turtle shell scales

In my attempts to push through burnout I decided to actually to try and do Bowser Day this year and redraw this piece from 2014

So what’s going on with that fire DO? The implication is that it’s an illusion, something I didn’t really pull off in 2014 honestly, and I think? I pulled it off this time???

Also originally I went with the eye colour for the shell and honestly? I don’t think that works on the original so went with the darker colour I use for Marcus and I think it looks much better.

Final changes? Extra chonk, and hopefully a slightly more dynamic pose to it. That relaxed arm on the old version just, doesn’t fit (pretending to) breathing fire, but I think having it flex a little upwards shows a much more “in charge” pose and much more actively in to it really.
